How can it be THIRTY SIX YEARS since the release of the first Beetlejuice movie? That astonishing fact (which is far scarier than the film, or its current sequel) aside, of course we wanted to do a fragrant character-matching for the much anticipated sequel: BeetleJuice Beetlejuice…
Now, if you’ve been following along, you’ll know that we love nothing more than pairing perfumes with cultural icons – be they from the music, popular streaming series, literary, art, or movie spheres. The benefit in this is twofold: it allows for fragrance-lovers to get a sense of the scent’s style, way beyond what a list of notes can bring to your understanding; and it perhaps introduces people who are already fans of that character / show / whatever we’re matching to a whole new world of perfumed possibilities.
Indeed, the characters of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024) especially offer a (delightfully eccentric) palette for fragrance pairing, making them ideal subjects for scent-matching the main returning characters. Tim Burton’s signature blend of the macabre and whimsical creates a rich tapestry of personalities that can be vividly translated into olfactory experience.
Now, you’ll be glad to hear there are NO spoilers here, specifically because yours truly hasn’t had the pleasure of watching Beetlejuice Beetlejuice at the time of writing, due to not having had time yet. So, spoiler-free and without further ado, as Beetlejuice himself might say, let’s get on with the scents, because: “It’s SHOWTIME!”
Beetlejuice: The Library of Fragrance Mildew
For the chaotic spirit of Beetlejuice, Mildew is a hilariously fitting choice. This scent captures the essence of damp, forgotten corners of the afterlife with notes that evoke a musty, earthy aroma reminiscent of long-abandoned homes. It’s the olfactory equivalent of Beetlejuice’s unpredictable antics—unexpectedly charming yet undeniably peculiar. Perfect for those who revel in the bizarre and love to keep guests guessing. Just don’t wear it to a first date (unless, of course, it’s to see the movie! Which would be a vibe.)

Lydia Deetz: Andrea Maack Coven
A spellbinding choice for our favourite goth girl, Coven is a fragrant journey into the mystical. With notes of galbanum, oakmoss, and petrichor-soaked earth, it captures Lydia’s dark yet whimsical essence perfectly. This scent is like a walk through a moonlit forest, where fresh-cut grass meets the dampness of enchanted soil—mysterious and inviting. It’s a scent that whispers, “I myself am strange and unusual.” Perfect for late-night seances or casual dinners with the dead.

Astrid Deetz: Cosmoss Sacred Mist
A rebellious yet ethereal choice for our spirited teen, this captures Astrid’s journey from mortal to otherworldly adventurer. Opening with zesty bergamot and delicate orange flower, it mirrors her youthful exuberance. The heart blooms with jasmine and tuberose, echoing Astrid’s blossoming confidence as she navigates the afterlife. Base notes of oak moss and cedarwood ground the scent, much like Astrid’s newfound supernatural wisdom. It’s the olfactory equivalent of accidentally summoning a sandworm—thrilling and unexpected.

Delia Deetz: D’Otto Profumi 7+1
For the avant-garde artist Delia, this is an olfactory installation, blending seven distinct accords with an eighth “invisible” note. Wonderful for impromptu gallery openings or when explaining your latest conceptual piece to bewildered houseguests. Just don’t be surprised if wearing it suddenly inspires you to turn your living room into a performance art space. May attract art critics and confused spirits.
