Xerjoff Casamorati 1888 Quattro Pizzi (Sofia Bardelli) 2024 +Sicilian Palace Giveaway

Xerjoff Casamorati Quattro Pizzi by Olya Bar

For those who may not be familiar with Casamorati, this line of vintage perfumes by Xerjoff is a fragrant tribute to the golden age of Italian perfumery. Each scent resurrects the storied history of the C. Casamorati Perfume Factory, founded by Claudio Casamorati in 1888 in Bologna. Known for its luxurious fragrances and bath soaps, Casamorati quickly gained international recognition, receiving prestigious awards and even the admiration of Queen Margherita of Savoy, who gifted Casamorati her gold pin as a token of appreciation. Despite its early success, the house fell into decline during the mid-20th century due to financial difficulties, fading into obscurity until Sergio Momo, the creative director and visionary behind Xerjoff, breathed new life into the brand, restoring it to its former glory.

Xerjoff Casamorati 1888 Quattro Pizzi Ingredients.

This summer’s release has quickly become one of my favorites from the collection, as Xerjoff Casamorati 1888 Quattro Pizzi stands out as a fragrant homage to one of Sicily’s most iconic palaces; it feels close to my heart as Italy happens to be one of my favorite countries. Drawing inspiration from the Casa Florio Quattro Pizzi, a grand residence steeped in the history of Palermo’s most prominent families, this fragrance transports you to the opulent world of the Belle Époque, where beauty, nobility, and secrecy intertwine. I enjoyed visiting it many years ago during my studies abroad in Italy. Xerjoff Casamorati 1888 Quattro Pizzi brings back those beautiful memories flooding back. It’s like a stroll through the sun-drenched terraces of the Quattro Pizzi palace, where vibrant flowers spill over the railings and the Mediterranean Sea shimmers in the distance. The balconies, adorned with intricate cast iron railings crafted by the renowned Oretea Foundries, invite you to explore further. Inside the palace is a kaleidoscope of multicolored frescoes and elegant, flower-filled rooms that seem to echo the stories of those who once lived there. Each corner of this neo-Gothic marvel is alive with memories—of grand celebrations, whispered intrigues, and lives lived to the fullest. The very walls seem to hold the secrets of the families who called this place home, their spirits accompanying you as you wander through the past.

Xerjoff Casamorati 1888 Quattro Pizzi review

Xerjoff Casamorati 1888 Quattro Pizzi by Olya Bar

Casamorati 1888 Quattro Pizzi carries with its spritz the ancient days of Sicily’s untold stories; a juxtaposition of sweet and spicy hits the senses on first spray with a boozy splash of rum, davana, and pink pepper, like a beautiful cocktail of mischief. Wicked heart notes of tuberose smell of danger, grandeur, and the lavish gardens surrounding the villa. There is so much sensuality in this perfume, which lingers like a lover’s forbidden touch on the skin long after the sun goes down. The nutty touch of coconut in the heart rounds up the opening of rum, bringing warmth and balminess to the surface. At the same time, the sweetness of blonde tobacco in the base paired with hay creates a balance of dry, almost herbal aspects, which brings the beautiful memories of a very particular smell of dry herbs in Sicily, which is so prominent during the summer heat.

The scent of the Belle Époque, of the stories the palaces of the past have seen and the famous guests of these rooms which ranged from loyalty, to the Sicilian dynasty members and beyond. What can I say? I’m a romantic and always seek a good story, especially an olfactory one.

Notes: Rum, Davana, Pink Pepper, Coriander, Tuberose, Coconut, Hay, Blonde Leaf Tobacco, Tonka Bean.
