Ann-Margret’s career spans over six decades. Her notable performances in films like “Bye Bye Birdie,” “Viva Las Vegas,” and “Carnal Knowledge” solidified her status as a celebrated actress. Alongside her acting career, Ann-Margret has also achieved success as a singer, earning Grammy nominations for her albums.
In 1966, she joined Johnny Rivers, Mickey Jones and Chuck Day, and traveled to Vietnam for a 15 day excursion that would take them to the front lines of war and into enemy fire. She said that politics played no part in her decision to go. The tour started at USO Saigon, where 400 spectators jammed into a space reserved for 200 to watch them perform. They then went on to the USS Yorktown operating off the coast of Vietnam where a surprise was waiting. Sailors welcomed Ann-Margret by standing in formation spelling out “ Hi Annie “. A 3 foot wide photo of the aerial photo of the event still hangs in Ann-Margret’s home today.
Ann-Margret says, “My experience with the men and women in Vietnam was one of the most important things in my life and always will be”.
